Stanley's counselor was called Mr. Pendanski. The name Pendanski has similar pronunciation as three simple words: pen, dance and key. Mr. Pendanski was kind. He introduced Stanley to the old campers: Alan and Rex. They had their nick names, known as Spuid and X-Ray.

Writing Task

Music is not practical and not valuable. Children should not be taught music at school. They should rather learn computing and science. Do you agree or disagree?

Nowadays, music is taught by many schools as a subject. Some people thought computing and science are more useful than music. I strongly agree to that. I will discuss three points to support my stance.

Firstly, the view that music is not practical and not valuable is quite right. Playing or learning music can't be a productive activity in our daily life. Music is usually played for personal purpose and competitions. If students are not interested in music, they will not play well. Therefore, learning music in schools is a waste of time to those who do not like music.

Secondly, computing and science are more useful than music. These subjects are more practical and useful. Although some students are not interested in these two subjects, they can still apply it's principle in our daily life to solve problems.

Lastly, school time is limited. Teachers do not have enough time to teach the syllabi. If music is taught in school, other subjects will have less time to teach. It affects the overall curriculum.

To conclude, I would suggest that music should not be a compulsory subject of school because not all students are interested in it and it is not so practical and not valuable as other subjects. So, schools should offer music as a optional subject.

Argumentative Essay

I agree that online activities can do more good than harm to students. It's because of the three reasons below.

Firstly, browsing the internet helps youngsters to learn more. It helps them get some useful knowledge and information. For example, many students browse the internet for their study and project work. They can access different kinds of information: data, pictures, articles, and research reports.

Secondly, online activities help young people to easily communicate with each others. They are considered to be better ways for communication. Online facilities such as MSN, facebook, and blog are widely used nowadays.

Lastly, online games help students to reduce their study pressures. They also help them to meet new online friends. There are a lot of fun online games for users to choose. However, students need to limit themselves not to spend excessive time playing these games.

To conclude, online activities are indispensable nowadays. It is not wise for parents to stop their children to access the internet. But, it is necessary for youngsters to control the usage of the internet and gain a balance between studying and engaging in the online activities.

The Warm and Cold

Freezing dusk is closing
Like a slow trap of steel
On trees and roads and hills and all
That can no longer feel.
But the carp is in its depth
Like a planet in its heaven.
And the badger in its bedding
Like a loaf in the oven.
And the butterfly in its mummy
Like a viol in its case.
And the owl in its feathers
Like a doll in its lace.

Freezing dusk has tightened
Like a nut screwed tight
On the starry aeroplane
Of the soaring night.
But the trout is in its hole
Like a chuckle in a sleeper.
The hare strays down the highway
Like a root going deeper.
The snail is dry in the outhouse
Like a seed in a sunflower.
The owl is pale on the gatepost
Like a clock on its tower.

Moonlight freezes the shaggy world
Like a mammoth of ice -
The past and the future
Are the jaws of a steel vice.
But the cod is in the tide-rip
Like a key in a purse.
The deer are on the bare-blown hill
Like smiles on a nurse.
The flies are behind the plaster
Like the lost score of a jig.
Sparrows are in the ivy-clump
Like money in a pig.

Such a frost
The flimsy moon
Has lost her wits.

A star falls.

The sweating farmers
Turn in their sleep
Like oxen on spits.

Dog Fight

he draws up against my rear bumper in the fast lane,
I can see his head in the rear view mirror, his eyes
are blue and he sucks upon a dead cigar.
I pull over. he passes, then slows. Idon't like
this.
I pull back into the fast lane, engage myself upon
his rear bumper. we are as a team passing through
Compton.
I turn the radio on and light a cigarette.
he ups it 5mph, I do likewise. we are as a team
entering Inglewood.
he pulls out og the fast lane and I drive past.
then I slow. when I check the rear view he is
upon my bumper again.
he has almost made me miss my turnoff at Century.
I hit the blinker and fire across 3 lanes of
traffic, just make the off-ramp...
blazing past the front of an inflammable tanker.
blue eyes comes down from behind the tanker and
we veer down the ramp in separate lanes to the signal
and we sit there side by side, not looking at each
other.
I am caught behind an empty school bus as he idles
behind a Mercedes.
the signal switches and he is gone. I cut to the
inner lane behind him, then I see that the parking
lane is open and I flash by inside of him and the
Mercedes, turn up the radio, make the green as the
Mercedes and blue eyes run the yellow into red.
they make it as I power it and switch back ahead of
them in their lane in order to miss a larked vegetable
truck.
now we are running 1-2-3, not a cop in sight, we are
moving through a 1980 California July
we are driving with skillful nonchalance
we are moving in perfect anger
we are as a team
approaching LAX:
1-2-3
2-3-1
3-2-1
