Things to do to enhance English

  1. start with aim and objectives, such as 
  • pass or get a good grade in my English tests of the Form 5 studies
  • analyse and understand the testing items
  • do the exercises and practices
  • revisit and review the exercises and practices at least three times.
  • make sure the testing items become familiar and mistakes can be avoided in the future
  1. get support from people around 
  • from parents, teachers, or friends
  • let you sit for the tests 
  • review the results
  • provide suitable advice or ways to further enhance your English
  1. be determine to stick to your objectives and plans
  • remind yourself the objectives
  • encourage yourself by small rewards  
  • get linked with others to support you.
  • control your time to achieve your objectives

Summary Chapter 5-10

Introduction
The novel, Holes written by Louis Sachar was first published in 1998. Stanley Yelnats, the hero of the novel was described as a boy under a curse. He was sent to the Camp Green Lake. He going to dig a hole everyday at the camp.

Stanley Yelnats finished to dig his first hole. He felt very tired after it. Mr.Pendanski told him the first hole was the hardest but the campers told him the true. That was the second hole will be harder to dig. He were starting to dig the second hole. He found a fossil of fish in his second hole. He remembered Mr. Pendanski told him if he could find something the warden interested in, he will had a day off. Stanley gave the fossil to Mr. Pendanski but he didn't had a day off because the warden didn't feel it was interesting.

Characters
The four main characters in the story include: Stanley Yelnats, X-Ray, Zero, and Mr. Pendanski

Setting
Stanley Yelnats was a good boy. He was unjustly sent to a camp called Camp Green Lake. It is a boys' detention centre where the boys learn to do good by digging holes all day long.

Plot

The main plot of the story starts with the unjust act of sending Stanley Yelnats to the youth detention centre at Camp Green lake. He is facing difficult tasks digging holes and learning to rebuild his characters.


My thoughts
I think the warden should be finding something. But if it was not a fossil, what could the boys find under a dried-up lake?

Chapter 1 to 5 Summary

Stanley Yelnats was a fat boy. He didn't do anything bad but everybody thought that he was a bad boy. He seems to be under a curse of having poor or rotten character.


He was unjustly sent to a camp called Camp Green Lake. Camp Green Lake had no green plants or lakes. It was hot and dirty. It is a boys' detention centre where the boys learn to do good by digging holes all day long.


Stanley's counselor was called Mr. Pendanski. The name Pendanski has similar pronunciation as three simple words: pen, dance and key. Mr. Pendanski was kind. He introduced Stanley to the old campers: Alan and Rex. They had their nick names, known as Spuid and X-Ray.
